FAQ’S
Do I need to be fit to have a Personal Trainer?
No! There are many reasons why you may choose to have a personal trainer, and getting fit is often one of them. Part of my role is to ensure your plan is tailored to you and your level of fitness. You will have an achievable programme which will ensure you reach your goals in a timely manner.
What type of training would we be doing?
The sessions can include a variety of training methods such as HIIT, strength training, functional training, free weights and body weight exercises, boxing, kettlebells etc. The methods may depend on the goals you have, but I do like to keep things varied and fun! As part of the FREE consultation, we can establish any preferences and any new training methods you would like to try.
I’m a little unsure about using weights. Will I look bulky and muscly?
Your goal will determine the type of training we do, and the level of weights required. Strength training is an important part of what I do in order to build lean muscle to ensure a strong body which will play a part in meeting those goals. Any particular likes/dislikes can be discussed in the free consultation. And no you won’t get big and bulky (unless of course that is your goal!).
What do I need TO wear/bring to the session?
Well fitting trainers and comfortable clothing you can move in are a must. A good fitting sports bra is also essential for ladies. I can provide advice on all the above. All you will need to bring along to the sessions is yourself, water and items such as a hat, sun cream , gloves etc depending on the time of year if we are outside.
How quick will I see results?
When we go through your programme at our first session, we will agree milestones with achievable timescales to meet the overall goal. This allows us to review progress regularly and make any adaptations. I do ask that you put in 100% effort at the sessions and carry out any home workout/nutrition advice we discuss to ensure you keep on track outside of the sessions.
What if I can’t do/find it too hard, the plan you set?
At each of our sessions I will be asking for feedback as we work through your plan to ensure it is working for you and is achievable. The plan is very easily adapted based on this feedback and any other changes which occur along the way. I have worked with people of all levels of fitness and am adept in making changes along the way. All I ask of you is to try your best and always provide me with feedback.

Who I train?
I have trained a variety of clients ranging from those having never exercised before to those training for 10k and half-marathons. Some clients have had injuries/heath conditions which have been factored into the sessions. These include diabetes, post-cancer treatment strength training, hip replacements, chronic knee injuries, diastasis recti, tennis elbow, chronic wrist pain etc.
I am a specialist pre and post-natal personal trainer and have lots of experience both with pregnant ladies looking to maintain fitness levels during pregnancy and new mums who are looking to embark on their fitness journey after having a baby. Please note it is essential that you obtain clearance from your doctor prior to starting exercise at your 6/8 week post-natal check up.
Can I can train if I have an injury or health condition?
Each case will be different and this is one of the reasons I offer an initial consultation for FREE. This enables us to discuss any injuries/conditions which will require adaptations or in some cases may require referral to another professional.
Please note I do not have a GP referral qualification at this moment in time.
Can I train if I am pregnant?
Yes, as long as your midwife/doctor has given the go ahead. All sessions can be adapted through the trimesters to account for your changing body.
Can I can train if I’ve just had a baby?
Yes, once you have had the sign off from your doctor at your post-natal check up (usually around 6-8 weeks postpartum). Any return to exercise will need to be gradual and take into account any pelvic issues, diastasis recti, feeding pattern of baby etc. For many months after having a baby you will have the hormone relaxin in your body which can result in your joints being much more flexible than normal. This will also be taken into account with any training methods used.
